Two new clusters of COVID-19 infections have been found in Bangkok, as 3,886 new infections and 39 more deaths were recorded today (Thursday) in Thailand.
On Wednesday, Dr. Apisamai Srirangsan, CCSA assistant spokesperson, said that a new infection cluster had been found ata shopping mall in the Lat Phrao area, but did not name the mall. This prompted Central Plaza, Union Mall and Imperial World, all located on Lat Phrao and adjacent roads, to issue denials that they are the unnamed mall.
Today, however, CCSA Spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin said that they will no longer withhold names of areas or venues with infection clusters, to avoid public confusion, adding that the mall mentioned by Dr. Apisamai is actually HomePro Ekamai-Ramintra, located on Pradit Manutham Road in Lat Phrao district.
He explained that clusters of infections at a venue or an area does not mean that the virus is somehow embedded there or that the venue is unsafe.
He also disclosed that two new clusters have been detected at construction housing facilities belonging to JWS in Bang Sue district and Unicorn in Rajathevi district, increasing clusters in Bangkok to 50, all of which are being closely monitored by city officials.
Of the new COVID-19 cases recorded today, 1,230 are prison inmates and 49 are arrivals from abroad.
Cumulative infections, since early last year, have reached 169,348, including 49,777 who are still being treated in hospitals. 118,204 people have recovered and 1,146 have died.
Bangkok recorded 995 new cases today, followed by 380 in Phetchaburi, 336 in Nonthaburi, 232 in Samut Prakan, 92 in Trang, 76 in Samut Sakhon, 60 in Pathum Thani, 46 in Chon Buri, 40 in Chachoengsao, 31 in Nakhon Pathom and 31 cases in Saraburi.
Meanwhile, the CCSA approved the holding of three international beach volleyball competition programs, to be held at Maida Grand Tawaravadee Hotel in Nakhon Pathom province from June 18th to 27th, July 3rd to 6th and July 12th and 15th.
