Dr. Apisamai said the Ayurvedic ward for women, at the Ban Pong Hospital in Ratchaburi province, has been closed until May 24th after six medics and nine other patients became infected, reportedly by a woman who had tended to her sick mother on the ward.
There are already 30 people in this cluster of infections, including several family members of the medics, she said.
Of the 24 deaths today, 13 are men and the rest women, with 8 of them in Bangkok, 2 each in Chon Buri, Pathum Thani and Kanchanaburi and one each in Chiang Mai, Si Sa Ket, Ratchaburi Samut Prakan, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Rayong, Nakhon Nayok and Ayutthaya. 16 of them had high blood pressure and the others had other underlying diseases.
