Well known DJ Matoom given suspended jail term and fine

Well known Thai disc jockey Techin Ploypetch, alias DJ Matoom, was sentenced to one month in prison and fined 10,000 baht today (Friday), with the prison term suspended for one year, after he was found guilty by Bangkok South District Court of violating the Emergency Decree.

Techin was charged with holding a birthday party on January 9th and 10th in a hotel room on Sathorn Road, with more than 30 guests in attendance who consumed alcohol, did not wear face masks or maintain social distancing.

Nine of the party goers were later found to be infected with COVID-19, including Techin.

Techin pleaded guilty to the charges and told the court, before his hearing, that he didn’t need a lawyer.

The court found him guilty as charged and imposed a two-month prison term and fined him 20,000 baht, but commuted the prison term to one month, suspended for one year and reduced the fine to 10,000 baht.
