More than 1.13 million people, both Thais and foreigners, celebrated the water-splashing Songkran festival in Bangkok.
The Maha Songkran World Water Festival at Sanam Luang, held from April 11 until today, alone has generated income of Bt1.7 billion, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has revealed.
The Sanam Luang festival attracted 558,015 visitors, comprising 523,456 Thais and 34,559 foreigners.
Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported that 241,537 people celebrated Songkran on Silom Road during the three-day event, while 333,201 joined festivities on Khao San Road during the same period.

The celebrations on both roads ended at 9pm last night, after which city workers immediately began cleaning the roads to prepare them for public use today.
Many people will return to work after the long Songkran holidays tomorrow, while others will do so on Thursday.
