Three slain at Radio Thailand’s Phitsanuloke provincial radio station

Three people were shot dead this morning at Radio Thailand’s station in the northern province of Phitsanuloke, in what police suspect was the result of an internal dispute.

The three victims are Mr. Sanit Bootmangkoon, the station’s director, and two engineers, Mr. Jiravuth Sumetthepanan and Mr. Poomirun Phanpoom.

The alleged gunman, Mr. Proong Chandaeng, also an engineer at the station, waited at the station after the shootings until the police arrived.  He surrendered with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and .38 calibre revolver.

Pol Lt-Gen Apichart Sirisit, commissioner of the 6th Provincial Police Bureau, who attended the crime scene, ordered officers to keep a close watch on the suspect for fear that he might try to self-harm.

Following the incident, the station suspended its broadcasts until further notice.
