Suspected insurgent killed in clash with security forces in Narathiwat

A suspected insurgent, against whom three arrest warrants have been issued, was shot dead by security forces at a house in Muang district of Narathiwat province yesterday (Saturday).

Security forces surrounded the house in a village in Muang district, after they learned that the suspect, 32-year-old Abdul Hakam, was hiding there. The officials sought help from a religious leader, a community leader and his relatives inpleading with the suspect to surrender. He refused to do so and opened fire on the security forces, who returned fire and stormed the house.

The suspect was found dead in the house with a handgun by his side.

Officials said that the suspect was wanted for the death of a civilian in 2017 in Narathiwat, three bomb attacks in the same year and the shooting of defence volunteers in Yee Ngor district in 2016.
