Anti-government activists have threatened to hold a demonstration this evening, in front of Bang Khen police station in a suburb of Bangkok, to protest the arrests of three activists by police.
The three have been identified as human rights activist Anont Nampa, Panupong Jaadnok, an activist allied with the Eastern Youth for Democracy, who protested against Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during his brief visit to Rayong province last month, and Prit “Penquin” [sic] Chivarak, a political science student at Thammasat University.
The activists, who call themselves the Free People movement, announced on its webpage today that they will stand by the activists in custody.
“We, the people, must protect the rights and liberties which are our birthright. We must not let anyone fight alone and bear the price of freedom, which is snatched away by the dictator,” said the movement.
In his Facebook post today, Anont said he had been arrested for inciting public unrest.
Anont took part in a rally on August 3rd at the Democracy Monument, during which he gave a speech, in which he allegedly mentioned the Monarchy.
In his Facebook page, Prit urged those who are against the Government to rally at Ban Khen police station to provide moral support to those arrested.
