Summer storm warning for Thailand

Thailand’s Meteorological Department is warning people to be prepared for summer storms, expected between 10th and 13th May, bringing thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and hail to many areas. This will affect the northeastern and eastern regions of Thailand, then the northern and central regions, including Bangkok and its suburbs.

The summer storms are being caused by the convergence a high pressure front from China entering the northern part of Thailand and the South China Sea, combined with Thailand’s high temperatures.

The storms will affect the northeastern and eastern regions on the 10th May, whereas northern and central regions will be affected on the 11th May.

The Meteorological Department advises everyone to be vigilant, avoid open areas and not to stand under large trees, billboards or street lighting. Farmers are also advised to be wary of the storms, which could damage crops.
