The SRT Electrified Train Company and Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), the operator of the city bus service, announced the launch of transit pass tickets today (Wednesday), which can be used for seamless travel on city buses and the Red Line train system, starting April 1st.

Sutep Punthupeng, CEO of the SRT Electrified Train Company, an affiliate of the State Railway of Thailand, said that the tickets are priced at 2,000 baht each, plus a 100 baht fee.

Each ticket is valid for 30 days and can be used for 50 journeys on Red Line trains and unlimited use on BMTA bus services. If the 50 train trips are used before the 30-day periodends, the commuters are required add money to continue to use the train service, but they can continue to use the bus service for up to 30 days.

At present, an average of 25,000 commuters use the Red Line train service each day, but the SRT Electrified Train Company predicts that about 10,000 regular commuters will buy the transit tickets, which will help save three baht per trip.

In the meantime, the transit tickets will help commuters save about 120 baht per month on the air-conditioned bus service, which means they will spend only 900 baht a month.

The BMTA has set a target for commuters using the transit tickets at between 55,000 to 60,000 a day, out of a total of 700,000 commuters using the bus services on a daily basis.
