China today handed over a donation of 30 million baht (about US$940,000) to help with the rehabilitation of victims of the recent devastating flooding in southern Thailand.
Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Zhang Jianwei handed over the donation to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in a ceremony at the Government House this morning.
The ambassador was accompanied by representatives of Chinese companies and Thai-Chinese organizations.
Government Spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat said the Chinese ambassador expressed his concerns over the impact of the recent flooding in southern Thailand.
“He stressed that the donation reflects the partnership between Thailand and China which regard each other as family members and friends who have been standing side by side all the way,” the spokesman said.
He said today’s donation was in addition to cash and supplies worth over 30 million baht China donated earlier.
He also quoted the Chinese envoy as saying the recent state visit by Their Majesties the King and Queen to China marked a new chapter of Thai-Chinese relationship.
In response, Prime Minister Anutin expressed his appreciation for the donation which he said reflects the deep and longstanding relationship between the two countries.
