A police officer was killed and another seriously injured when an unknown number of insurgents opened fire, with assault rifles, on Chanae police station in Narathiwat province Wednesday morning.
According to an initial police report, officers at the station were attending a flag raising ceremony when they came under attack. The gunmen fled the scene in a vehicle.
One of the officers, Pol Sgt Abdulloh Makaseng, was hit in the head and chest. Pol Sgt Jesada Promrat was shot in the chest. Both were rushed to the district hospital, but Abdulloh was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Narathiwat provincial police have appealed to the public, through social media, for AB group blood donations for Jesada.
