From August 24 to September 1, Pattani, Thailand’s southernmost province, will host “Pattani Decoded 2024,” an annual event highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Organized by the Melayu Living group in partnership with cultural and tourism agencies, this year’s festival will turn four key districts of the province into a showcase of the area’s evolving traditional attire.

The event will be held across Pattani Phirom Road, Thetsawiwat Market, Preeda Road, and Chabang Tiko Community, each serving as a stage for exhibitions that trace Pattani’s historical and cultural evolution through its clothing. A focal point of the festival will be a light installation at the historic Raja Pattani Mosque, marking the first time the mosque will be illuminated to emphasize its architectural and historical importance.
Themed “Unparalleled,” Pattani Decoded 2024 will explore the role of local attire in reflecting the city’s transformation from an ancient trading port to a multicultural hub. Exhibitions will feature traditional garments alongside modern styles, illustrating how Pattani’s sartorial history mirrors broader social and historical changes.

Among the key exhibits is the “Unparalleled” display, which will chronologically present the evolution of Pattani’s attire, offering a window into the city’s past and how its clothing has adapted over the centuries.
The “Hijab Exhibition” will explore the development of Muslim women’s headscarves in Pattani, highlighting the balance between cultural significance and evolving fashion trends.
The “Fashion Lab Exhibition” will feature a behind-the-scenes look at how local designers draw from historical and cultural influences to create contemporary attire, showcasing the blend of tradition and modernity that defines Pattani’s fashion scene.
In the “Made in Pattani Exhibition,” 10 historic local businesses will collaborate with contemporary designers, merging traditional craftsmanship with modern design. This exhibition aims to highlight Pattani’s unique cultural identity and its fusion of old-world techniques with current trends.
A standout feature of the event, the “Pattani Decoded Light Exhibition,” will illuminate the Raja Pattani Mosque, showcasing its architectural features and cultural significance in a new light.

The Baju Guni Exhibition at the Palace Hotel will display a collection of rare second-hand garments, some with significant historical value, linking them to Pattani’s clothing history.
Other festival highlights include “Preeda Street” at Chong R Hotel, featuring emerging local designers, and vintage-themed displays at Lorong Ruedee, where visitors can find classic clothing and cars. The Pasar Raya community market will showcase the old Chabang Tiko neighborhood through innovative designs and thematic exhibits.
