There have not been temporary road closures for royal motorcades for a long time, since HM the King ordered them to cease over his concern for their impact on other motorists.

Defence Ministry spokesman, Rear Admiral Thanitpong Sirisawetsak, said today that the monarch has assigned the police to manage traffic properly vis-à-vis royal motorcades and the public.

The statement comes following an incident involving reform activists from the Taluwang (blasting through the palace) group and the motorcade of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn earlier this month.

The incident triggered a debate in parliament over revamping the royal security and protection law. Additionally, many people across the country have been showing support and respect for the princess in various ways, including wearing purple, which is her favourite colour.
