Poor air quality in 68 areas of Bangkok and its suburbs on Thursday morning

People in most areas of Bangkok and its suburbs are having to deal with excessive amounts of PM2.5 dust on Thursday morning, but the pollution levels are expected to improve throughout rest of the day as wind strength increases, according to the Meteorological Department.

Mr. Somkuan Tanjarn, director of the weather forecast division, said today that morning fog and excess amounts of PM2.5, compounded by poor air circulation and increased humidity flowing up from the Gulf of Thailand, made Bangkok appearhazy this morning, but he said that, as the wind is expected to gain strength this afternoon, the sky over Bangkok will become clearer and airborne dust will reduce.

Bangkok and some parts of the northern, northeastern and central regions may experience slight up to moderate rainfallfrom Sunday through Tuesday as westerly airflow from Myanmar is expected, said Mr. Somkuan.

Only four areas of Bangkok have less than 50-microns of PM2.5 in the atmosphere. They include Phyathai sub-district in Phyathai district, Plabpla sub-district of Wang Thong Lang district, Khlong Chan sub-district in Bang Kapi district and Bang Pood sub-district in Pakkred district of Nonthaburi.
