All ten MPs from the Chartthaipattana party, including party leader Varawut Silpa-archa, will defect to the Bhumjaithai party, because they believe the move will better serve the public and secure the party’s political future, the party’s deputy leader, Anucha Sasomsap, confirmed today.
Anucha said discussions about leaving Chartthaipattana have been underway for some time, driven by concerns over the party’s long-term viability in an increasingly competitive political landscape.
He said small parties will struggle to survive and will be less able to deliver benefits to their constituents compared to the larger parties.
“We talked internally about the future of the party, realising that small parties would not be able to stand on their own. At first, we hadn’t decided where to go, but eventually the consensus formed around Bhumjaithai,” according to Anucha.
All ten Chart Thai Pattana MPs, from Nakhon Pathom, Suphan Buri and Roi Et, will move together to Bhumjaithai.
Senior Bhumjaithai figures have already discussed policy direction and cooperation with them.
Anucha said that a formal announcement is expected on November 23, at Bhumjaithai headquarters, when the party holds its general assembly.
Anucha, who has been in politics for more than 30 years, thanked Nakhon Pathom voters for their long-standing trust in the Sasomsap family.
“Minister Varawut is respected wherever he serves. Despite his age, he delivers results. We believe we belong with him,” Anucha said.
He added that once the move is official, the group will work to help strengthen Bhumjaithai and solidify its status as a major political force.
