The deadline to file an appeal against the acquittal of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on a royal insult charge has been extended to next month, Office of the Attorney General (OAG) spokesman Sakkasem Neesaiyok said yesterday.
The Criminal Court has set October 22 as the new deadline. Yesterday was the last day for the OAG to decide whether to appeal the court’s verdict, Sakkasem said
The Criminal Court cleared Thaksin on August 22 of a lèse-majesté charge, stemming from a 2015 interview with a South Korean media outlet.
Thaksin is, meanwhile, currently serving a one-year prison term for abuse of power and corruption at Bang Khen Central Prison in Bangkok.
