The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions today ruled that the transfer of former PM Thaksin Shinawatra to the Police General Hospital for treatment outside prison was unlawful, and that the time he spent there could not be counted toward his prison term.
The court therefore ordered him to serve a one-year prison sentence in accordance with the royal commutation.
Thaksin’s original prison sentence, stemming from three cases involving malfeasance and abuse of office, was eight years but was reduced to one year by royal pardon.
It was reported that Thaksin will be escorted from the Supreme Court’s headquarters to prison.
