Thai Pakdee Party chairman Dr Warong Dechgitvigrom posted a 3-minute, 17-second video on Facebook on Wednesday, showing a VIP room on the 14th floor of the Police General Hospital—similar to the one where former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra reportedly stayed for six months while receiving treatment for allegedly serious medical conditions.
A well-known anti-Thaksin hardliner, Dr. Warong said he had a rare chance to visit one of the VIP rooms while seeing a patient on Wednesday and wanted to share his observations with the public, who, he noted, have been left in the dark about what these rooms look like—and whether they resemble actual ICUs where critically ill patients are typically treated.
According to Dr Warong, the room was fully furnished with amenities including a dining table and other furniture for guests. It also featured panoramic views.
However, it lacked any medical equipment typically found in intensive care units, such as ventilators or vital signs monitors.
“It’s not surprising at all that someone would want to stay here for a long time,” Dr. Warong quipped, seemingly referencing Thaksin.
The video has since gone viral, drawing a wave of critical comments from netizens.
One user wrote: “A patient’s room? Looks more like a private mansion—paid for with our taxes.” Another remarked: “A convict’s room? It’s nicer than what honest working people live in.” A third asked: “Can other prisoners request this kind of treatment too?”
