The Palang Pracharath party’s controversial secretary general Thammanat Prompao has threatened to quit the party and to sever all his ties with party leader General Prawit Wongsuwan, after being excluded from the party’s proposed cabinet minister list, because the Pheu Thai party ‘does not want him’.
“I assure you that I have never had a conflict with anybody. For the past six years, I have served one person and one party long enough. It’s about time for me to leave and not have to quarrel with anyone,” the Caretaker Agriculture Minister told the media today.
He has scheduled a press conference at 2pm today at the Ministry of Agriculture to reveal his decision and political future.
There have been conflicting reports about his future in the government. Report said that he was dropped from the party’s list of proposed cabinet ministers and a later report that his name was included after a talk with the party leader.
Confronted by reporters at Government House this morning, Thammanat questioned the reporter who interviewed General Prawit about him and his prospects for reinstatement in the new cabinet. He said he wondered whether the reporter had woken General Prawit up and interviewed him while he was still half sleep.
Thammanat said that, whether he would be included in the new cabinet or not depends on the prime minister, not the Palang Pracharath party leader.
He insisted that he does not hold any personal grudge against General Prawit adding, however, that he simply wants to be free but has not yet decided which party he will join.
