Most respondents to a recent opinion poll agree that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s administration is unlikely to survive without the help of her father; former prime minister Thaksin, but they do not want him to be given any formal position in the administration.
The poll on Thaksin’s role, if any, in the Paetongtarn’s government, was conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA). It shows 59.01% of the respondents agree that the prime minister would not be able to run the country without her father’s support.
Moreover, 15.42% of the respondents think it may, indeed, be impossible for her to administer the country without him advising her.
14.96% believe, though, that she is capable enough without Thaksin’s help, while 9.77% have complete faith in her capabilities.
The same poll shows that 37.79% of the respondents think that Thaksin should not be given any formal post in the government and should offer his advice from behind the scenes, father to daughter.
Meanwhile, 26.95% say he should give Paetongtarn a free hand to do her job.
