A petition bell has been installed at the front of the parliament building, for people who wish to file a complaint. When rung, officials will come to receive the complaint.
House Second Deputy Speaker Pichet Chuamuangphan initiated the idea, stating that it is intended to make it more convenient for people, so they do not have to walk to the complaint centre.
Instead, they can simply ring the bell in front of the building. The centre itself will, however, remain open.
People frequently visit parliament to file complaints on Wednesdays and Thursdays, when parliament is in session.
Pichet may have drawn inspiration from King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, who had a bell hung in front of his palace for people to ring and file a petition if they felt that they had been treated unjustly.
