Convicted monarchy reform activist Arnon Nampa was sentenced by the Criminal Court today to two years and eight months in prison for an act of lèse majesté. Arnon’s latest conviction for lèse majesté is related to the “Harry Potter” rally at the Democracy Monument on Ratchadamnoen Avenue in Bangkok, held between August 1 and 3, 2020.
During a speech at the rally, Arnon made remarks which were deemed to have insulted the monarchy and Crown Property. He pleaded not guilty.
Krisadang Nutcharat, from Thai Lawyers for Human Rights, said that the Criminal Court initially sentenced Arnon to four years, but commuted the sentence to two years and eight months without suspension.
