Political whistle blower Srisuwan Janya filed a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) today, demanding an investigation into PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai over their alleged inaction against intruding Cambodian forces, allowing them to remain on Thai territory for more than a week.
He referred to the brief clash between Thai and Cambodian forces on May 28th, at the Chong Bok pass in Ubon Ratchathani province, during which one Cambodian soldier was killed.
Srisuwan claimed that the prime minister and the defence minister kept talking about negotiations, through the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), to resolve border dispute with Cambodia, while taking no action against the intruding Cambodian forces, who had encroached 200 metres into Thai territory and were able to remain there for more than a week.
He pointed out that the inaction of the prime minister and the defence minister might be construed as violations of Section 1 of the Constitution and Section 119 of the Criminal Code.
People’s party MP Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, meanwhile, cautioned that it is too soon to assume that the border tension has de-escalated. He said, however, that the border situation has eased to the extent that negotiations are possible.
He accused Cambodia of provoking the conflict, in violation of MOU 43, while seeking to refer the issue to the International Court of Justice.
