Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin says that he is ready to talk with the media after the Constitutional Court has finished delivering its decision in a case in which he is charged with gross ethical misconduct by a group of 40 former senators.
The court is scheduled to read the ruling at 3pm today, but the prime minister will not attend the hearing in person and has assigned his secretary-general, Dr.
Prommin Lertsuridej, to attend on his behalf.
Apparently in a good mood, Srettha was seen at Government House this morning, telling the media in passing that he had slept well last night.
Asked whether he is worried about the court’s decision, he responded that he is worried about all issues all the time, but the court case is out of his control and sub judice.
Somchai Sawangkarn, one of the 40 former senators named on the complaint, said in his Facebook post today that the 40 former lawmakers did their job in good faith by asking the Constitutional Court to remove the prime minister from the office over his appointment of Pichit Chuenban as prime minister’s office minister, which they believe to be a breach of ethical conduct, because Phichit was sentenced to a term of imprisonment for contempt of court.
He also said that they will accept the court’s decision.
Security at and around the Constitutional Court, located in the government complex in the Chaengwattana area of Bangkok, was beefed up this morning, with a company of crowd control police and plainclothes officers being deployed.
A water truck, equipped with water cannon, is on standby near the court.
