Core members of the United Thai Nation party, led by party leader Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, met with their counterparts from the Pheu Thai party at the Pheu Thai head office this afternoon (Saturday), in an attempt to find a solution to the current political stalemate.
Accompanying Pirapan to the informal talks were the party secretary-general Akanat Promphan, Supattanapong Punmeechaow and Pitcharat Laohapongchana, while the Pheu Thai party was represented by party leader Chonlnan Srikaew, secretary-general Prasert Chanthararuangthong and deputy leader Phumtham Wechayachai.
Pirapan told the media, before the meeting, that the party’s political stand remains unchanged, which is that it rejects the Move Forward party as well as its proposal to amend the lèse majesté law. He also said that the discussion today did not concern Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, as he has already quit as the party’s strategy chief.
After the meeting, Cholnan said that the discussions with the United Thai Nation and earlier with the Bhumjaithai party were within the remit of the eight coalition parties in seeking support from MPs and senators for Pheu Thai’s prime ministerial candidate, to be nominated for selection this Thursday.
He said the party has not invited the two parties to join its coalition.
