The opposition failed to land a knock-out punch on Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra after 14 hours of censure debate on Monday. Most of the incriminating information presented was “old wine in a new bottle”, according to the government’s assessment of the opposition’s performance.
Government chief whip Wisut Chainaroon told the media late Monday night that he listened to the debate throughout the day and found nothing new or exciting.
The atmosphere was similar to an interpellation session, as opposition MPs kept repeating the same information, he said.
Pheu Thai MP Sutin Klungsang said he found the presentations by opposition leader Natthapong Ruengpanyawut and Palang Pracharath Party Leader General Prawit Wongsuwan to be as expected, with only vague allegations against the prime minister.
Regarding People’s Party MP Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn’s accusation of tax dodging by the prime minister, Sutin said that the speech would have been more interesting if it had been less emotional, adding that the MP was at risk of being accused of defamation.
