The Opposition’s no confidence debate against the government of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is scheduled to begin on March 24, House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said today.
He explained that the Opposition has asked for five days for the debate, adding that, if the Opposition only wants to question the prime minister, then the government and opposition whips will have to decide how many days will be needed.
He said he does not mind if the censure debate lasts five days or fewer, because “it is not an important issue.”
He reminded opposition MPs, however, that they could face lawsuits if they implicate “outsiders” during the debate, such as former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
He warned MPs to debate reasonably, because Thai people are now knowledgeable about Thai politics and can judge the MPs’ performances in parliament.
