Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul travelled by boat last night to distribute relief supplies to residents of the heavily flooded Klong Chan housing estate in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district.
Anutin was briefed on the situation in and around Klong Chan by Pol Gen Samran Nualma, deputy national police chief, and offered moral support to volunteers helping flood-affected residents.
The housing estate is currently under about 1.5 metres of floodwater. Residents are calling for more water pumps to drain the floodwater so they can resume using tap water and leave the estate.
He was also seen walking barefoot as he inspected flood-affected areas.
Several government agencies are currently providing assistance to residents in the area.
Meanwhile, Deputy Interior Minister Worasit Liangprasit said flooding in Klong Chan, Rom Klao and Lat Krabang remained a concern, with large quantities of food and drinking water needed for residents. Mobile toilets will also be provided.
He said the situation was expected to improve if there was no more rain.
