About 14.5 million fragile and disabled Thai citizens will be the first to receive 10,000 baht in cash under the “digital wallet” scheme in the fourth quarter of this year, according to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
In a speech delivered last night at the “Dinner Talk Vision for Thailand 2024”, Thaksin described the digital wallet scheme as “killing three birds with one stone”.
He said the scheme will stimulate the economy and the use of Blockchain technology will enable Thai people to understand and use the technology to gain access to other state services.
He said he is optimistic that the digital wallet scheme will do more than just stimulate the sluggish economy.
The former prime minister said that, once the Bt10,000 cash is distributed to 14.5 million people, beginning in September, the economy will be given a kick-start through its spending.
Then, in October, after the disbursement of the 2025 fiscal budget, the 10,000 baht benefit will be distributed through the Thang Rath platform, which will further help to boost the economy, claimed Thaksin.
Last but not least, the former prime minister urged Thai people to be united, claiming that he has been the most persecuted man in this country “having gone through heaven and hell.”
He cited the new government, which will include more parties, claiming that this new spirit of unity and cooperation will help facilitate the development of the country and enhance political stability.
He said that he is ready to provide help from behind the scenes to both the public and private sectors. “Whoever wants to seek advice from me, I am willing to provide it for just a cup of coffee,” he said.
