Police to seek additional arrest warrants in cyanide poisoning investigation

Thai police are to seek warrants for the arrests of one or two additional suspects, thought to have assisted serial murder suspect Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn, who is believed to be responsible for the deaths of at least 15 people, allegedly by cyanide poisoning.

Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, the deputy national police chief, said today (Saturday) that they have obtained sufficient evidence to indicate that Sararat acted alone in procuring cyanide online, but used other people’s names and addresses to cover her tracks.

Despite the suspect’s refusal to make a statement to the police over the charges against her, Surachate said that they have sufficient evidence to incriminate her, adding that they are also collecting evidence to support an application to the court for the additional arrest warrants.

All the police officers investigating the 15 suspected cyanide poisonings are due to meet with Surachate on Monday at the police club to update him on their investigation.

Sararat’s lawyer, Thannicha Aeksuwanwat, earlier said that she had advised her client not to confess to the police, but only to the court, if she wants to plead guilty.

Sararat’s former husband, Pol Lt-Col Vitoon Rangsiwuthaporn, was quoted by Surachate as saying that he would try to persuade her to confess to the police if he was granted bail, but Sararat has persistently refused to give a statement to the police, even though Vitoon has been granted bail.
