Election Commission and police are ready for advance voting on Sunday

Thailand’s Election Commission has sent all the ballot sheets, ballot boxes and election-related documents to two stadia in the Din Daeng area for safe keeping, before they are distributed to all polling stations in Bangkok before dawn tomorrow (Sunday) for advance voting, which will last from 8am until 5pm.

About 3,000 police officers will be deployed across all polling stations in Bangkok tomorrow, said Pol Maj-Gen Chokchai Ngamwong, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau today.

809,748 voters have registered to cast ballots in advance in Bangkok. Nationwide, there are about 2.35 million advance voters.

He said that the police will be tasked with various election-related responsibilities, such as directing traffic around the polling stations, dealing with election violations and maintaining peace and order.

He predicted traffic congestion at Ramkhamhaeng University in Constituency 14, where there are 52,771 advance voters, at Siam Paragon shopping mall in Constituency 2, where there are 40,750 advance voters and at Huai Khwang district office in Constituency 5, where there are 28,344 advance voters.

EC Secretary-General Sawaeng Boonmee said that there are 80 polling stations in the compound of Ramkhamhaeng University alone.
