Police question actor Mario over his vintage car purchase

Well-known actor Thai-German Mario Maurer was questioned today (Wednesday) by Cyber Crime Suppression Bureau (CCIB) officers, as a witness in a case in which he bought a vintage car issued with registration document based on doctored information.

The actor, who’s Thai name is Natthawut Suwannarat, said he is not worried at all and has cooperated with the police by providing information about how he bought the car and from whom.

Pol Maj-Gen Amnat Traipote, CCIB deputy commissioner, said Marui told police that he bought the car for 1.5 million baht last December from an acquaintance, whom he has known for a long time and whom he trusted, adding, however, that he has not yet taken delivery of the car.

Mario also said that he has already cancelled deal and was refunded the 500,000 baht down payment.

The deputy commissioner said that two more witnesses, including the man who sold the car to Mario, will be summoned for questioning.

65 cars, mostly vintage, which were found to be issued with car registrations based on doctored information, but only 16 have been seized by the police to date.

Two suspects, who are accused of changing car registration information in the database of the Land Transport Department, have been arrested for alleged involvement with a gang specialising in selling smuggled vintage and luxury cars which do not have car registration documents.

The gang needed legally issued registrations, to enable them to sell the smuggled vehicles at lucrative prices.
