PM orders help for Thais in Japan following earthquake

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has instructed the Foreign Ministry and relevant agencies to take care of Thais in Japan and to make sure they are safe following the 7.6 magnitude earthquake, which struck the central region of the country yesterday.

He said he has been informed by Deputy Foreign Minister Jakkaphong Sangmanee that all Thais in Japan are safe.

At least, 30 Japanese people were killed, according to Sky News.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara said that the Labour Ministry, the Civil Service Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Foreign Ministry are involved in taking care of Thai citizens in Japan, including a group of agricultural students.

He also said that there are hotlines available, through which Thais can seek help or information about the earthquake, adding that the Thai embassy in Tokyo has received many calls from Thais inquiring about their loved ones in Japan. They have been told that, so far, there have been no reports of casualties among Thais.
