More than 2.6 million shoppers have registered for and downloaded the Thai Chana mobile application, following its launch yesterday to coincide with the second phase of resuming businesses and leisure activities.

CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin said today that, although all those shoppers checked in at malls and department stores across the country using the app, only about 1.8 million of them checked out, leaving a discrepancy of over 800,000, resulting in inaccurate information about people visiting the premises.

The mobile phone app tracks people in and out of the premises and traces contacts, in case there are infected people among the shoppers visiting the same mall or department store.

Dr. Taweesin suggested that QR codes should be posted at entrances and exits of all malls and department stores, to ensure that shoppers check-in and check-out properly.

44,386 business venues have registered for and downloaded Thai Chana app.

The CCSA listed the check-ins and check-outs at malls and department stores by province yesterday:

  • Bangkok, 992,332 check-ins and 680,834 check-outs.
  • Chon Buri, 180,285 check-ins and 121,827 check-outs.
  • Samut Prakan, 149,829 check-ins and 104,415 check-outs.
  • Nonthaburi, 146,583 check-ins and 102,054 check-outs.
  • Pathum Thani, 132,983 check-ins and 95,870 check-outs.
  • Nakhon Ratchasima, 82,453 check-ins and 59,580 check-outs.
  • Chiang Mai, 91,782 check-ins and 68,965 check-outs.
  • Songkhla, 55,558 check-ins and 39,439 check-outs.
  • Phuket, 42,629 check-ins and 26,902 check-outs.

Dr. Taweesin admitted there were hitches on the first day, but expects the situation to improve adding that, if the second phase of lockdown relaxation proceeds satisfactorily, even more restrictions will be eased in the next phase.
