Seven opposition parties are to demand that the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) investigate Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for allegedly breaching the law on three issues, namely:

1. The Prime Minister failed to state the sources of the Government’s revenue in the Government’s policy statement presented to parliament last year.
2. The Prime Minister failed to recite the oath fully during the official swearing-in ceremony, an issue which remains unresolved since Constitutional Court has not accepted the matter for consideration.
3. The process for the selection of senators was illegal due to the presence of members of the post-coup junta on the selection committee.

Acting chief opposition whip and Prachachart party secretary-general Pol Col Thavee Sodsong said that the Opposition’s move against the Prime Minister is unrelated to the planned censure debate, during which some seven cabinet ministers, as well as the Prime Minister, will be challenged.

The opposition will submit its censure motion to the House of Representatives on January 29^th.

The House will set the dates for the no-confidence debate when the Government is ready defend itself against the motion.

Mr. Phumtham Vechayachai, advisor to the Leader of the Opposition, said that the Government should step down if it is proven to the people during the debate that the Government is unable to solve the country’s pressing economic problems.
