Protest leader Anont Nampa and three anti-establishment activists were released from Bangkok Remand Prison just after midnight last night.

Anont, Aekkachai Hongkangwan, Somyot Prueksakasemsook and Suranart Paenprasert were released after the Criminal Court rejected a police request to keep them in custody.

A large group of supporters gathered in front of the prison to welcome the four detainees upon their release.

Anont went straight to a microphone, after being released, to say that their three demands still stand, namely the resignation of the PM, a new constitution and reform of the Monarchy.

Anont had been held on remand for 19 days on sedition and several other charges. Somyot also faces a sedition charge and has been held on remand for 18 days.

Aekkachai has been in custody for 18 days, on a charge of threatening HM the Queen, while Suranart, who is facing similar charge, has been on remand for 13 days.

Their lawyer, from Thailand Lawyers for Human Rights, said that he was told by Prachachuen police that, so far, police elsewhere in the country have not asked them to continue to hold the four in custody.
