A special police task force from Yala province was dispatched to Zone 8 of Hat Yai last night, to hunt for a group of looters who are reported to have robbed a 7-Eleven convenience store in a commercial building.
Pol Maj-Gen Siriwat Deepor, deputy spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, said today that the ‘Daen Thai 54’ task force rushed to Zone 8 in response to a 191 call reporting that five men were seen breaking into a convenience store.
He said that the looters escaped before the police arrived, adding that they found many products scattered over the floor.
Meanwhile, the owner of a toy shop, ‘TOYS Gallery Hatyai’, said in his Facebook post today that he left the shop during the flooding and returned today after floodwater has receded, only to discover that the shop had been broken into.
He complained that all the toys he had collected throughout his life to open his shop in Hat Yai had been stolen ahead of its official opening next month.
A native of Bangkok, the owner said he intended to open the toy shop to cater to customers from Malaysia and Singapore, adding that his collection of toys was worth about three million baht.
He claims to know who the looters are, as they live in Zone 8.
Meanwhile, the ‘Army Military Force’ web page featured an image of a young man sitting among liquor and cigarettes, worth over 100,000 baht, which he proudly claims to have looted from a convenience store in Zone 8.
Several businesses on Sri Phuvanaat Road in Zone 8 claim that the looters had used a truck to travel throughout the zone as they robbed the abandoned shops and warehouses of many valuables, such as motorcycles.
