The Appeals Court has upheld the two-year prison sentence, which was imposed by the Criminal Court on reform activist Jatuporn Sae-Ung, who was found guilty of lèse majesté for mocking Her Majesty the Queen.
The Appeals Court’s decision was read this morning by the Criminal Court, according to Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR).
Jatuporn, dressed in a traditional Thai costume, took part in a fashion show, during a protest in front of the Hindu Khaek Temple on Silom Road in Bangkok on October 29th, 2020, to demand reform of the Monarchy.
According to the court, when Jatuporn stepped onto the catwalk, several protesters greeted her by shouting “Long Live the Queen” and extending their hands to touch her. She responded by shaking their hands while other protesters continued shouting.
The court said the fact that Jatuporn did not resist the protesters was a clear indication that she was intentionally mocking the Queen.
