New banknotes that change colours when tilted available Saturday

The Bank of Thailand will start issuing a new set of banknotes featuring His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebavarangkun’s portrait on the front side on Saturday which coincides with the 66th birthday anniversary of HM the King.

The new banknotes were printed with new printing technology using three-dimensional magnetic print which will make them change colours when tilted in different angles.

The central bank said that this is the first time that this new printing technology is used in the printing of the banknotes.

The new banknotes come in five denominations – 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 baht – and are available for exchange at all commercial banks and certain financial institutions.

The bank said that all the existing banknotes featuring the late King Bhumibol’s portrait are still a legal tender.
