Junta and Election Commission must address  issues of primary election and political restrictions

The National Council for Peace and Order and the Election Commission must sit down together to resolve two crucial political issues – unlocking of political restrictions and primary election,  Mr Suriyasai Katasila, director of the College of Social Innovations, Rangsit University, suggested today.

He pointed out that the two issues are co-related and should be resolved at the same time otherwise there would be problems.

“If the NCPO eases political restrictions, but is not clear about the modality of primary election, a new problem will emerge or a new issue will be created which may have impact on the election roadmap or create unrest during the election,” said the veteran political observer.

Suriyasai said he felt the junta was not sure what should be the modality of primary election and suggested both the NCPO and the EC should carefully consider the issue and come up with a solution.
