Tantawan Tuatulanon, a detained political activist, was transferred to Thammasat University Hospital from the Corrections Hospital yesterday, as her hunger strike reached its ninth day.

The Thai Lawyers for Human Rights Centre revealed details of the transfer today and said it was due to her seriously deteriorating condition, resulting from the hunger strike. She is weak and has lost a significant amount of weight.

Tantawan and Natthanon Chaimahabutra were arrested on February 13for invo lvement in an incident with a royal motorcade.

After being charged twice for alleged acts of lèse majesté in 2022, Tantawan, aged 22, was arrested again on charges of sedition, breaking the Computer Crime Act and causing a public disturbance.

A conviction for sedition alone carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison, as per Article 116 of the Criminal Code. Both were originally detained at Bangkok Remand Prison after being denied bail.

Tantawan announced that she will be on a hunger strike until her demands, including the revamping of the justice system, are met.

Thai Lawyers for Human Rights told reporters that Natthanon, who is also on hunger strike, remains in the Corrections Hospital and that Tantawan is refusing any medical treatment and has vowed to continue her hunger strike at Thammasat University Hospital.
