General House debate against government on February 15th and 16th

The Opposition general debate, without a vote, against Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut and his cabinet ministers will take place on February 15th and 16th, amidst rumours that the House will be dissolved one day prior to the debate.

Cabinet, opposition and government whips agreed on Wednesday that opposition parties will be allocated 24 hours of debate, with the government given eight hours to respond.

According to opposition chief whip, Sutin Klungsang, the first day of the general debate, under the theme “Unmasking the Good Guys”, will begin at 9.30am and continue until 2.30am, with opposition MPs speaking until 11pm, followed by up to three and a half hours of rebuttals by cabinet ministers.

The second day starts at 9am and is scheduled to end by midnight.

Acting Government Spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said the prime minister is ready to listen to the Opposition and will respond to every issue raised by their MPs, adding that the debate is a good opportunity for the government to tell the people about the government’s performance and achievements.

He also said that the prime minister has always upheld the principles of transparency, honesty and good governance.
