Thailand recorded four new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, all among returnees from abroad and currently in state quarantine.
According to CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, two are a 33-year old man and a 25-year old woman, in a Chon Buri state quarantine facility since July 2nd, after returning from the United Arab Emirates. Both asymptomatic, they tested positive for COVID-19 on July 13th.
The third is a 27-year old Thai student, returning from Egypt, who entered a state quarantine facility, also in Chon Buri, on July 8th. She was reported to have been in close contact with an infected person in Egypt and, while asymptomatic, tested positive for COVID-19 on July 11th.
The fourth is a 51-year old woman, who arrived from the United States on July 11th and entered state quarantine in Bangkok. She tested positive four days after arrival.
Cumulative infections in Thailand, to date, are 3,236, with 3,095 recoveries and 58 deaths. 83 others are still being treated in hospital.
Foreign Ministry spokesman, Mr. Cherdkiat Atthakor, said today it is normal practice for the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) to ban two Thai airlines from landing in China, after it was found that they were carrying people infected with coronavirus.
Six infected people flew on a Thai Lion Air flight and five were on a Thai Air Asia flight. The two airlines claim that the flights originated from a third country and made a brief stopover in Thailand, before heading for China, with no passengers disembarking.
The two airlines are prohibited from landing in China from July 20th to July 27th.
Meanwhile, Bangkok City Hall urged anyone in the capital, who visited the Passione Mall or the D Varee Diva Central Rayong Hotel in Rayong between July 8th and 11th, to contact the Emergency Operation Centre (094-386-051) or the Erawan Centre Hotline (1646), for free swab tests.
