Thailand’s Office of National Water Resources issued a warning, to people living in 10 southern provinces today, to brace for flash floods tonight and through tomorrow, due to a depression over Cambodia, which is the remnant of the weakened tropical storm Etau.

The depression will, however, strengthen the northeasterly wind, which is affecting Thailand’s northern and upper southern regions, and will cause heavy to very heavy rain in Chumpon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Trang, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, causing flash floods in some areas.

At Samila Beach, in Songkhla province, officials raised yellow flags, to warn tourists that swimming in the sea could put them at risk.

Agencies concerned have been advised to monitor weather conditions closely, to keep people informed of the latest situation and to prepare for evacuations, if they become necessary.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department today also warned about tropical storm Vamco, which is forecast to make landfall in central Vietnam on November 15^th.

Packing winds of up to 100kph at its centre, the storm, which is now over the middle of the South China Sea, is heading toward Vietnam at a speed of 20kph and is steadily gaining in strength, said the Weatherman, adding that the storm is expected to weaken once it makes landfall.
