Excessive PM2.5 levels in Bangkok on Tuesday
Air quality in Bangkok and its suburbs today (Tuesday) varies from good to a level which is beginning to affect health, with PM2.5 exceeding the 50-micron safety standard in 69 areas, according to the Air4Thai website.
Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s (BMA) air pollution clinic reported 148 cases of patients affected by air pollution receiving treatment at six hospitals run by the city administration from the beginning of this month until Sunday.
The five areas in Bangkok and its suburbs with the highest PM2.5 readings this morning are: Ma Charoen Phetkasem 81 Road in Nong Khaem district, 75 microns; Khlong Taweewattana Road in Taweewattana district, 74 microns; Putta Monthon 1 Road in Taling Chan district, 71 microns; Taweewanarom Park in Taweewattana district, 69 microns and Phetkasem Road in Phasi Charoen district, 68 microns.
According to BMA Spokesman Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, 48 patients were treated on March 10th alone, after which the number has steadily dropped. Since October 1st last year, the six hospitals have treated 883 patients suffering from air pollution-related conditions, including respiratory conditions, strokes, eye irritation and asthma.
The most common respiratory conditions were coughing, chest pain, dizziness, rashes, nausea and acute asthma.
