Thailand’s second case of Coronavirus pneumonia has been diagnosed and the patient, a 74-year old Chinese tourist, is being treated at the state-run Bamrasnaradura Hospital in Nonthaburi province, public health permanent secretary Dr. Sukhum Kanchanapimai disclosed today.

He said that the patient, who arrived at Suvarnabhumi international airport from China on January 13^th, was hospitalized after diagnosis.

He said that the patient’s condition has improved and she will be allowed to return to China once she is clear of the virus.

Dr. Sukhum said that, from January 3^rd to 16^th, a total of 13,624 passengers and air crew, who arrived at Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai and Phuket international airports from the Chinese town of Wuhan, where an outbreak of Coronavirus pneumonia was reported, have gone through thermal scanning and 21 of them were temporarily isolated for observation after it was discovered that they had a fever, but most were found to be infected with influenza.

He said that the World Health Organization has not yet issued any notice advising travellers not to visit Thailand or other countries where Coronavirus pneumonia cases have been reported.

He warned, however, that Thai tourists planning to visit high-risk areas should exercise caution and avoid contact with animals, avoid visiting animal markets or congested areas and to see a doctor immediately if they have a fever, cough, sore throat or runny nose.
