EC disqualifies 11 election candidates from 7 parties

The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday disqualified eleven election candidates, representing seven smaller parties, for alleged violations of the election law.

According to the EC, the 11 candidates committed one or more of the following violations:

  • Holding party memberships in more than one party
  • Being a party member for less than 90 days/not being a founding member at the time registration
  • Formerly a government official who was dismissed from service on corruption charges
  • Being a state employee, an employee of a state enterprise or an official of other state agencies at the time of their candidacy registration.

The disqualified candidates are:

Mr. Suthat Satsaeng – Palang Puangchon Thai
Athip Taenrattanakul – Palang Thai Rak Thai
Wattana Thepnamthip – Palang Thai Rak Thai
Ms. Pornsupree Boopphanonthapat – Palang Thai Rak Thai
Mr. Sompong Ratnang – Palang Thai Rak Thai
Mr. Thanat Wattanasirichoke – Prachatham Thai
Mr. Watcgara Watcharakaveesilp – Palang Chart Thai
Kane Wisetsunthorn – Ruam Jai Thai
Boonchu Kaewkrachang – Palang Chart Thai
Natthapon Chim-in – Seri Ruam Thai
Samret Wongsakda – Chart Pattana

As a result of their disqualification, all the votes won by the 11 candidates will be nullified and deleted from the combined votes won by the respective parties.

Earlier on Wednesday, the EC also disqualified six Prachachat candidates for holding memberships in more than one party.
