A famous Feng Shui expert has been arrested by Crime Suppression Division officers on fraud charges, after more than 20 people, mostly elderly, filed complaints accusing him of cheating them out of an accumulated sum of over 70 million baht.
Pol Lt-Gen Akkaradet Pimonsri, assistant national police chief, said that the Feng Shui expert, Thanawan Chiracharoenvet, popularly known as “Ting Lee”, is being held for questioning at the CSD headquarters, after being apprehended yesterday at the Sema Fah Kram housing estate in Pathum Thani province.
One of the victims, identified only as ‘Saengduen’, filed a complaint with the CSD last Monday in the company of her daughter, Rattanaporn.
According to Rattanaporn, they came to know about the Feng Shui expert from social media and several TV talk shows. They became interest in him because their house had problems and needed regular repairs. Then, in February this year, they contacted Thanawan and asked him to visit their house for an ‘observation’.
She claimed that, after the ‘observation’, Thanawan suggested that a religious ceremony be held to improve the Feng Shui of the house and that many sacred objects must be acquired, including a pair of stone Kirin, a mythical Chinese dragon-headed unicorn to be imported from China, and a piece of stone, also from a cemetery in China.
On top of that, the elderly woman was advised to buy a piece of land in a cemetery in Chon Buri province.
Rattanaporn claimed that her family paid Thanawan a total of about 66 million baht for all the arrangements and the sacred objects, but have not yet received the stone Kirin from China. Instead, they were given a pair of smaller sculptured stone lions as a substitute.
She further claimed that the family had demanded a refund from Thanawan, particularly for the 38-million-baht stone Kirin from China, but this was rejected.
