The administrative committee of Bangkok University unanimously agreed today to expel two fourth-year students, who are currently detained by Khlong Luang district police on assault charges after allegedly pouring hot soup over a junior student last Wednesday.
The committee ruled that the two senior students had violated the law and the university’s regulations, causing injury to the victim and depriving him of his liberty.
The expulsion order is effective immediately, the university stated in its second announcement today.
Regarding other students involved in the incident, the administrative committee is also considering disciplinary action against them.
Meanwhile, Khlong Luang district police have decided to postpone their plan to seek court approval for the further detention of the two suspects, as several more complaints have been filed against them.
Pol Col Kiatisak Mitprasart of Khlong Luang police said today that he has decided not to file criminal association charges due to insufficient evidence.
The two suspects, identified only as ‘Rasipha’ and ‘Chakatphol,’ are reported to be members of an LGBTQ group at the university.
The incident led to a gathering of about 1,000 members of the LGBTQ community at a condominium in Rangsit on Saturday night, demanding that the two perpetrators apologize to their victim, who sustained scald injuries in the attack.
Yesterday, Kanthat Pongpaiboonvej, a self-proclaimed advocate for crime victims, escorted three other youths to file complaints with Khlong Luang police, claiming they had also been assaulted by the same two suspects.
Kanthat stated that the three complainants are not connected to the hot soup assault but added that he will ask the police to investigate the suspects over an alleged extortion attempt.
Bangkok University issued a statement yesterday, affirming that it does not condone violence in any form. It also announced the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate the case and has agreed to cover the assault victim’s medical fees, provide legal consultation, and arrange for psychiatric support if needed.
The university’s student council president, Naruebaet Rakvichit, wrote in a Facebook post that the victim, whose identity remains confidential, is a key member of the council who has contributed to several projects. He had called for the two suspects to be expelled.
Meanwhile, the ‘Miss Teen Trans Thailand’ organizing committee has decided to remove ‘Miss Teen Trans Phetchaburi 2025’ from this year’s beauty contest due to her alleged involvement in the hot soup attack and will seek a replacement.
Miss Teen Trans Phetchaburi (name withheld) posted an apology on Facebook, admitting that she was present during the assault but was too afraid to intervene.
