Phuket police suspect that the Russian male, who was found dead in a drain on Karon Beach on Tuesday, committed suicide because he was in financial trouble. He had, reportedly, tried to persuade his Russian wife to commit suicide along with him on several occasions.
Pol Col Khundet Na Nong Khai, the superintendent of Karon police, told the media today that he had questioned the victim’s wife and a Russian friend, who had let the couple to stay with him in his rented room.
The wife told the police investigators that she and her late husband quarrelled frequently and she was, sometimes, assaulted. They had financial problems and her husband had, on several occasions, tried to convince her to commit suicide as well.
The belief that the victim committed suicide corresponds with footage from a CCTV system at Karon Beach, which shows the Russian, in shorts and shirtless, walking alone on the beach road on Tuesday.
An autopsy report says that the Russian man lost a lot of blood from the deep wounds to both of his wrists.
